Lemon and lime are both citrus fruits and thus have a lot of nutrients in common; though not in the same quantity….
Since I have earlier done a post on the benefits of a morning lemon water cleanse; it’s time to closely look at its ‘ cousin ‘… LIMES.
Lime is anti carcinogenic…they help prevent cancer of the colon , stomach and blood.
They contain Limonoid compounds which causes the death of cancer cells…….. Because the lime is very acidic…..It acts as an antiseptic and helps clear the excretory part of our digestive system ( you know you can even use it to wash raw snail to remove the slime ).
Lime juice has fever reducing qualities….which probably explains why it is used in local anti malaria tea preparation ( agbo).
It aids weight loss….the level of citric acid present in sour LIMES is an excellent fat burner. It is advised to be taken first thing in the morning ….just squeeze the juice and add a teaspoon of honey + a glass of warm water. 2 glasses a day is recommended for weight loss…..one in d morning and one later in the day.
It can be used to alleviate the symptoms of dysentery…..because of its antiseptic properties
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM.
Sour LIMES have a greater sugar and citric acid content than LEMON.
According to the USDA nutrients database…..LEMONS are a richer source ( 4 times more) of Vitamin C than LIMES.
Vitamin A is more in LIMES than LEMON.
FOLATES (which is very important in early pregnancy) is slightly more in LEMON than LIMES.
The POTASSIUM content of LEMON is higher.
The CALCIUM content of LIME is higher….
Still confused or undecided? There is no need to choose between the 2 ….# wink # Let’s just be consuming the two
OR what do you think?
